About Me

My name is Suzanne Kirkman. I currently work as a Graphic Manager for a packaging company, which may seem exciting and creative to some people, but is far from it. Most of my day is spent editing others work to make it "printable" on our presses. So I am very limited in my creativity.

A few years ago my Husband bought me a small digital camera. I loved to take pictures before, but hated the hassles and cost of film, so really didn't get that much into it, but this gave me the ability to easily trash the bad shots and download onto my computer. I was hooked!

I fell in love with it so much I ended up buying a Digital SLR Canon Rebel. I went to some classes to try to figure out how to "Shoot Manual", but was still having issues with proper exposure & white balance, so I put the camera down again, except for trips and special occasions.

Then about a year ago I friended my college roommate on Facebook and she told me of a Photo project called "Project 365". Where you are given a theme each week and have to take a picture everyday according to that theme. I gave it a try and was hooked again. (Does anyone see a theme here?)

So I started Project 365 and shortly into it also did a workshop on "Understanding Exposure". Boy did I feel stupid when I realized that there is a light meter in my camera and it is telling me when I am over or underexposing pictures when shooting RAW. Wow, did that change a lot.

Although I loved working on Project 365 and did finish it, my true love was photographing people. I also realized I'm not much of a studio girl, but I love to do photo shoots outside, in local Gardens, Towns or just anywhere with an outside feel to it. This leads to other issues with weather and lighting, but I am up for the challenge.

I think I have finally found my creative outlet and hope to continue with it for many years to come.
